LAPD Enlists Celebrities To 'Tweet' About 405 Shutdown

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles Police Department hopes some serious star power will help save the day, or rather the entire weekend, when the 405 Freeway shuts down in two weeks.

The department is asking celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and Ashton Kutcher to inform their umpteen million followers that the freeway will be shut down from Interstate 10 to the 101 Freeway starting July 16.

"The whole idea is just to re-message the theme of avoiding the 405 area and that it's going to be a mess if people don't stay away," Lt. Andy Neiman, an LAPD spokesman, told the Los Angeles Times. "The other message is to take advantage of this weekend to shop, meet some neighbors you never met before, finish that home improvement project you never got around to finishing or have a block party."

While star power may be able to help some drivers avoid the chaos on the road, workers and business owners are concerned about the unprecedented shut down.
