Plastic Bag Ban Goes Into Effect Friday For Parts Of LA County
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Beginning Friday, retail stores and supermarkets in unincorporated Los Angeles County will no longer offer plastic bags and will charge customers for paper bags.
The county ordinance was passed in 2010 to help curb the use of plastic bags and encourage shoppers to carry reusable bags. Shoppers will be charged 10 cents for each paper bag.
The ordinance will go into effect in two parts: first for large chain stores on July 1 and second in January for smaller retail outlets.
