Lenny Dykstra Seeking Donations To Make Bail

LOS ANGELES (KNX1070) — Former Major League outfielder Lenny Dykstra is seeking donations to help him make bail.

Through a Web site, friends, family and fans are being urged to help him raise $50,000 to pay a bail bond agent.

"If the money comes from a legitimate source, I don't have any complaints about it," Prosecutor Alex Karkanen told KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta.

Karkanen says this is the first time he's heard of a defendant using a Web site to come up with bail money.

"Everybody pretty much by now knows he has been accused of fraud, frauding various parties including his friends and his family and if people want to give money knowing that, that's up to them," he added.

The 48-year-old, who has been behind bars for more than three weeks, has pleaded not guilty fraud, theft and other charges.

His bail remains at $500,000.
