$50K Reward Offered For Drive-By Killer Of Hyde Park Father

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A $50,000 reward was offered Tuesday for information leading to the conviction of the killer of a Hyde Park father.

Clint Smith, 28, was shot and killed while standing in a courtyard at 6309 Brynhurst on the evening of May 13, 2010. Smith left behind a 2-year-old daughter.

"It happened in front of numerous witnesses, and we're hoping that because no witness has come forth yet to assist with the investigation that by offering a monetary reward this will encourage those who saw and those know what happened to come forth and help us with the case," LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Detective David Ross said.

Ross says Smith was mistaken for a gang member and was shot twice in the chest. He died at the scene.

Detectives have interviewed people with information on the shooting, but no eyewitnesses. Ross said he believes four or five people saw the shooting, but are afraid to come forward for fear of retaliation.

"A good man died that day, a father, a brother, a son, an uncle, a cousin. He was really loved," Sabra Akmal, Smith's older sister, said. "My family is in mourning, we continue to be. Its only been a year. We continue to hurt. We continue to feel his absence."

Anyone with information about the killing can call (213) 485-1385 or make an anonymous tip to (877) LAPD-24-7.
