Murder Victim's Family Reaches Out For Public's Help

WHITTIER (CBS) — A week after two young friends were gunned down in Watts, one of the families is pleading for help.

Angelica Escalante was one of two victims killed by an assault-type rifle in a driveway in the 10000 block of Grape Street about 10 p.m. on June 20.

Los Angeles police the 19-year-old and a 17-year-old male friend were caught in the crossfire of an ongoing gang feud in the area and were not the intended targets.

"I think they're heartless people… the people that did this, you know. And they are still out there," said Obed Duarte, Escalante's stepfather. "If anyone has any information, or seen anything or heard anything regarding these double murders, please contact the police."

Escalante is being remembered as a 19-year-old full of life with big dreams. She was a proud older sister and a mother of an 11-month-old girl.
