Father's Day Reflections: Lisa Sigell of CBS2/KCAL9
Funny, loving, giving, supportive and oh so talented. Those are words that come to mind when I think of my father.
My dad has shown me the true definition of unconditional love. He dedicated and continues to dedicate his life to his family. Growing up he worked several jobs to make sure we had what we needed, while at the same time being there for his kids. He was there for the recitals, graduations and of course, those trips to the Oregon coast.

My father is an amazing violinist. He was a concert master of the Portland Youth Philharmonic and spent more than three decades in the Oregon Symphony (actually he was one of the youngest to get in). I remember going to concerts to watch him. I would look up on that big stage and see him all dressed up in his tuxedo. He was so good, I don't think he even had to look at the music sometimes. He played by ear and with so much heart.
I wanted to be an artist like him. I tried the flute and clarinet but when I couldn't seem to get the hang of it, he took me to meet the conductor of the Oregon symphony. I remember being told instruments were not in the cards for me, but then dad had me sing for the man.
I wouldn't be a violinist but I found out that day I had a voice. He would play and I would sing. We both love music.
My dad and mom are quite a pair and have been married for 46 years. I think they play on each other's strengths. I have learned to be a better person because of them, so I must honor my mom as well for being such a light in my life.
On this Father's Day I hope my dad reads this and knows how much I love him. I tell him often.
My dad always says he doesn't want gifts, just time with his children on special occasions, like this. Still, I know the greatest gift I could give him would be to tell a joke. He is the king of "puns," but I leave that to him. I also am sending him a deli sandwich from Art's through the Internet.
