Support Special Olympics With Gold Medalist Mary Lou Retton

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Hundreds of Special Olympics athletes will travel from the U.S. to Athens this summer for the 2011 World Summer Games!

Mary Lou Retton, a 1984 Olympic gymnastics gold medalist and mother of four, is a longtime supporter of Special Olympics. She stopped by KCAL9 Tuesday to talk about a special initiative that honors Special Olympics mothers.

Proud sponsor of Moms, P&G, is honoring the moms by giving a gift of $250,000 to support local Special Olympics programs and services.

For the mothers, families and caregivers who can't attend the games, P&G is ensuring that they will have the opportunity to see the athletes compete via videos of events on the "Thank You Moms" Facebook page.

For every new Facebook fan or message of encouragement left for athletes or their moms at on the facebook page, P&G will donate $1 toward Team USA's journey to Athens up to an additional $250,000.
