Top-Seeded Virginia Beats UC Irvine, 6-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Danny Hultzen and Cody Winiarski combined on a four-hitter and Jared King hit a three-run home run Saturday in helping Virginia stretch its winning streak to eight games with a 6-0 victory against UC Irvine in the opener at the Charlottesville Super Regional.

Hultzen (12-3) pitched 5 1-3 innings, an outing interrupted by a lightning delay of an hour, 23 minutes. He allowed three hits, and singled home the second run for the Cavaliers (53-9). Matt Summers (11-3) allowed five runs in having his nine-game winning streak snapped.

He also returned after the long delay, already trailing 2-0, and sailed into the sixth before allowing consecutive one-out singles and then King's second home run of the season.

It was just the second home run Summers has allowed this season.
