Melee Outside Lake Forest Restaurant Turns Deadly

LAKE FOREST (CBS) — One man was killed and two others injured following a confrontation outside a Lake Forest eatery, authorities confirmed.

Orange County sheriff's deputies responded to a melee in the parking lot of Albatros Mexican Restaurant on Rockfield Boulevard near Lake Forest Boulevard about 2:03 a.m. Saturday, Orange County sheriff's Lt. Colin Murphy said.

All of the victims, identified as men in their 20s, were taken to hospitals, where one later died, Murphy said. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.

A second man undergoing surgery was listed in critical condition, Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said. A third victim suffered non-life threatening cuts and abrasions.

There was no word yet on what sparked the confrontation, which apparently started inside the restaurant and continued to the parking lot, Amormino said.

Amormino said 18 witnesses were being interviewed.

He tells KNX 1070's Ed Mertz that it's very rare for something like this to happen in the city of Lake Forest, which has been named one of the safest cities in America.
