Jaime Alberto Villa-Corta was found just before midnight Thursday in the 1200 block of South Townsend Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A father of two, Villa-Corta worked for a Stanton firm that provides security for the complex, which covers four blocks and has 500 apartments, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

"Apparently he was a very proactive security officer," Bertagna said. "The people I talked to in the apartments thought he was very friendly, very protective of the apartments and everybody who lived there liked him."

Investigators are still working to establish a motive.

"At this point we don't know if he walked up to some kind of crime in progress or if he was having a problem with some individual and was the intended target of the shooting," Bertagna said. "They're looking at all angles."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call (714) 245-8715. All tips can be made anonymously.
