Security Guard Fatally Shot In Santa Ana Parking Lot

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A security guard was shot to death in a Santa Ana apartment parking lot, police said Friday.

Residents reported hearing shots fired in the 1400 block of South Townsend Street, near West Edinger Avenue, shortly before midnight, Santa Ana police Commander Tammy Franks said.

Officers responded and found the victim dead at the scene, Franks said. The victim’s father identified the man as Jaime Alberto Medrano.

Medrano,23, allegedly worked as a security guard at the complex and suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Medrano’s father told CBS2’s Kara Finnstrom that his son feared for his life because of local gangs. He also said that his son has asked the apartment complex’s management to add another security guard to his overnight patrol.

Medrano had two small children, a girl, 7, and a boy, 2.

No suspect description was immediately available.

Police urged anyone with information about the shooting to call (714) 245-8715.

Viva Alabama! On the one hand, I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the deceased male victim — on the other hand, as a nation of law-abiding citizens and legal residents — we need to know who is in our midst, enforce our immigration laws, and STOP BASHING the representatives from Alabama and Arizona for attempting defend us from gangs, murderers, and the “broken nation” theory.

Nena, allow me to re-write your comment in the correct American language to the best of my ability.

“Jaime Alberto, was a great guy! He was loved very much by his friends, family and co-workers. His memory will live on. We pray the Police will find these individuals soon and bring them to justice for this hideous murder of our beloved son, father and husband.”

Just like corporate America to place 1 guard in a very dangerous situation the lone watchman is corporate Americas why of doing business

  7. Frank says:

i see numerous problems with this story. Why was a security guard sent to a location like that by himself. If the apartment complex was aware of the situation, they should have pulled the security guard or added another security guard. Additionally, the security company employing the shot security guard should have known about the dangers and insisted on another guard.

That is why people should hire and work for professional guard companies that take the safety of their people serious. At my company a security consultant with years of experience would have identified the risk factors and insisted on additional armed security guards.
