210 Suicide Jumper Reportedly Made Previous Attempts

DUARTE (AP) — A man who committed suicide last week by jumping from a Southern California freeway overpass had made or threatened to make some dozen similar attempts in the past decade.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune says 41-year-old Francisco Sanchez of Duarte died Friday afternoon after leaping from an Interstate 210 overpass into rush-hour traffic. He was struck by at least one car.

Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Joe Bale says Sanchez had two broken ankles from a 2003 jump from the same overpass.

Bale says Sanchez made more than 10 previous suicide threats and attempts and repeatedly was held for psychiatric observation.
