Man, 19, Woman, 18 Nabbed In Connection With Graduation Party Stabbing Death

COVINA (CBS) — A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 19-year-old at a graduation party, sheriff's officials announced Thursday.

Mark Parker of Glendora was arrested Sunday and Mary Villareal of Covina was arrested Wednesday, said Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The stabbing in the 20000 block of Stephanie Drive occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday at a graduation party near Covina with about 20 to 25 people in attendance, Hecht said.

Two men began arguing, the argument escalated into a fight and Christian Ryan Smith, 19, of La Puente was stabbed in the upper torso, according to Hecht and coroner's investigator Kimberley Arnold.

Smith died at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, Arnold said.

Parker was booked for murder and is being held at the Men's Central Jail in lieu of $1 million bail. Villareal was booked for accessory after the fact and is being held at Century Regional Detention Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.
