Elephants, Slash, And Betty White Set For 'Beastly' LA Zoo Fundraiser

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A fundraiser set for later this month will bring together a line-up of some of the biggest names in Los Angeles — both human and otherwise.

Actress Betty White told KNX 1070's John Brooks that whoever attends the 41st-annual L.A. Zoo's "Beastly Ball" fundraiser will find out that everything there is to know about elephants.

White said she's been to just about every one of the events, and has learned a lot about elephants.

"They're the most fascinating animals in the world because they're not only so intelligent, but for instance that trunk has like 10,000 muscles," said White. "They can pick up a dime."

Two female elephants enjoyed the food set out by local chefs at a preview of the event, which included a vegetarian feast for the zoo's gorillas, while the human patrons dined on hot dogs from Pink's — including a vegetarian version.

The fundraiser, which raises about $1 million for the zoo, will be held on June 18.
