Hulu Will Offer Miramax Films To Its Subcribers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hulu said Wednesday that it will offer hundreds of Miramax films to some of its subscribers and select films through its ad-supported service as part of a multiyear deal between the two companies.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The agreement comes on the heels of a deal between Miramax and Hulu competitor Netflix Inc. Miramax said on May 16 that its movies would be available for streaming on Netflix's online subscription service starting in June. That agreement includes "several hundred" Miramax movies, with dozens of titles being added on a rotating basis.

While Hulu has emerged as one of the largest providers of video content online, rival Netflix has been spending heavily on deals to add more movies and TV shows to its streaming.

With the Hulu deal, Hulu Plus subscribers will have access to Miramax movies including "Good Will Hunting," "The English Patient" and "Pulp Fiction" without advertisements starting on Wednesday. The movies can be viewed on tablets, computers, cell phones and televisions.

Hulu Plus is a video subscription plan that charges $8 a month to watch a range of programs. Netflix charges a monthly fee of $8 to stream movies through an Internet connection, or a bit more to get DVDs delivered by mail.

Hulu's agreement with Miramax also includes the rotation of about 15 Miramax films each month through its web site with occasional ad interruptions. Hulu said that these films would be available "soon."

Hulu is owned by The Walt Disney Co., News Corp., Comcast Corp.'s NBC Universal and Providence Equity Partners.
