Attorney: 'Grim Sleeper' Trial May Not Happen For Another Year

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An order to delay the next hearing in the case of the accused "Grim Sleeper" suspect prompted an outcry Wednesday from family members of the murder victims.

KNX 1070's John Brooks reports there were audible objections from the dozen or so family members in the courtroom when the judge granted a 60-day delay for the next hearing for 58-year-old Lonnie Franklin.

Franklin was indicted after his arrest in 2010 on 10 counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The former police department and backyard mechanic has pleaded not guilty.

The district attorney's office has turned over 15,000 pages of information to Franklin's defense team, who said the actual trial could be over one year away.

"There's multiple crime scenes that have to be investigated," said attorney Louisa Pensanti.

Meanwhile, Donnel Alexander, brother of victim Monique Alexander expressed his willingness to let the legal process run its course.

"Discovery and all of that, we understand that," said Alexander. "It's not something we're comfortable with, but everybody gets due process."
