7-Mile Stretch Of Route 2 Reopens Friday

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST (CBS) — A seven-mile section of state Route 2 between La Canada Flintridge and the Angeles Forest Highway will be reopened on Friday after being closed since January.

The route was closed after portions of the roadway were washed away by severe rain storms in the Station fire burn area.

The reopening of the route will give motorists more access to locations in the Angeles National Forest and provide an additional way to go between the Antelope Valley and San Gabriel Valley.

Various federal and state elected officials, their representatives and outdoor enthusiasts are expected to attend the reopening ceremony, which will be held at the entrance to the forest on state Route 2, about two miles north of La Canada Flintridge.

The highway has been closed since Jan. 17, 2010 when rain storms washed away several sections of the highway. Additional rains during last January washed away another section of the highway about 2 1/2 miles east of La Canada Flintridge.
