LAFD Invites Public To Attend Huge Fundraising Block Party

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — You can eat grub cooked by an actual firefighter (and these guys are pretty good cooks!), watch them work a hose, put on the uniform, participate in raffles, watch a bucket brigade contest, enjoy live music...you name it.

There will also be firefighter photo booths and a firefighter suit-up contest. (What? No kissing booth!?)

Where else? The annual Los Angeles Firefighter "Hope for Firefighters" block party. This year, the party is being held on Thursday on Bunker Hill and more than 5,000 folks are expected to attend.

More than 25 fire stations take part. Money raised goes to the LAFD's Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firefighter's Fund.

The party begins at 11:30 a.m. on Hope Street between 3rd Street and Hope Place. The party goes until 2:30 p.m.

Last year's party raised more than $90,000 for the fund.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to appear.
