FBI To Expand Probe Of Los Angeles Building Department
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The FBI is expanding an investigation into the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to include supervisors.
The Los Angeles Times says the FBI move was disclosed to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa earlier this month in a confidential memo from city General Manager Robert Ovrom.
Two former building inspectors have pleaded guilty to accepting thousands of dollars in bribes to approve construction work they never inspected. Two other employees were placed on leave and one of them has retired.
Ovrom's memo says 10 other workers are under investigation by the city and the internal probe could expand.
