Desert Hot Springs Man, 22, Gets Probation For 2nd Sex Crime Involving Underage Girl

INDIO (CBS) — A 22-year-old Desert Hot Springs man was put on three years probation Friday for having sex with a minor.

Jonathan Sledge was also sentenced to 147 days in jail by Superior Court Judge John M. Davis, but was immediately released due to credit for time served since his February arrest.

Sledge's punishment was handed down upon his guilty plea to a felony count of sexual interaction with a person under 16. He also admitted to violating terms of his probation stemming from a previous sex crime. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor charge of molesting a minor.

Under the probationary terms set down today, Sledge must stay 100 yards away from Desert Hot Springs High School, attend a sex offender treatment program and refrain from contacting the victim.

Sledge previously pleaded guilty in November 2008 to a misdemeanor charge of having unlawful intercourse with a minor.

In the more recent case, Sledge had sex with an underage girl about 10 p.m. Feb. 5 in the 13600 block of Mesquite Avenue, according to Desert Hot Springs police Sgt. Ken Peary.

Earlier in the criminal proceedings, a judge disallowed a defense attorney's request to have be admitted to mental health court — a rehabilitation program similar to drug court.
