San Pedro Man Says Shotgun Slaying Of Friend Was An Accident

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A San Pedro man has been arrested after killing his 16-year-old friend with a shotgun blast but he says it was an accident.

Authorities say 18-year-old Joseph Hecker was holding the shotgun when he answered his door Tuesday afternoon. Police say the gun went off, striking his longtime friend Dale Lee Soto in the chest.

The Torrance Daily Breeze says Hecker told investigators the shooting was accidental.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held Thursday on $1 million bail.
