LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A deputy-involved shooting in Walnut Park that was connected with a traffic stop left two people hospitalized Tuesday, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 6:45 a.m. near 76th and Alameda streets, when deputies tried to stop a driver for speeding, the sheriff's department reported. One man got out of the vehicle with a gun and a deputy shot him, officials said. The other suspect was also wounded.

Paramedics transported two men to an area hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Their conditions are unknown.

Alameda Street was closed in the area while an investigation was conducted.
