OC Man Charged With Fatally Shooting His Father

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 35-year-old man accused of shooting his father in their Huntington Beach home was charged Monday with murder.

Jeremy Dwayne Martin, who also faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of shooting a gun causing death, was being held on $1 million bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday.

Deputy District Attorney Sonia Balleste says Martin got into an argument with his 62-year-old father, Frederick, about a gun the son was keeping in the house.

Jeremy Martin appeared to be "paranoid," so his father called Huntington Beach police to come to their home and check on his son early Friday morning, Balleste said.

Police left when Jeremy Martin refused to talk to them, and the father and son got into another argument about the gun, Balleste said.

About an hour later, at around 8:30 a.m., he called police to say he had shot his father, Balleste said. He faces up to 50 years to life in prison, if convicted.
