LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie is the weakest box office performer of two of its three sequels and is on track for a $90 million or so weekend, an analyst said Saturday.
Paul Dergerabedian said “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” has a opening day gross of $35 million. That’s less than sequel 2 — “Dead Man’s Chest” at $55.8 million — and sequel 3 — “At World’s End.” with $42.9 million.
The latest Johnny Depp flick from Disney is doing much better than the original movie on its opening, however.
Dergerabedian said on his Web site, Hollywood.com, that ”The Curse of the Black Pearl” had a paltry $13.5 million opening.
