LOS ANGELES (AP) — California Assembly Speaker John Perez’s educational record has come under scrutiny after it was noted that some biographies described him as a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, even though he never completed a degree.

The website California Watch reported Thursday that before Perez was elected to the Assembly in 2008, biographies distributed by the Los Angeles mayor’s office and then-Gov. Gray Davis indicated that Perez had graduated from UC Berkeley.

Perez said in a statement that although he did attend Berkeley, he did not graduate.

He says he takes full responsibility for the mistake and has worked hard to correct the record.
