UCLA To Honor Former Baseball Commissioner With Wooden Award
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth will be given the John Wooden Global Leadership Award next week by UCLA's Anderson School of Management.
Ueberroth was baseball commissioner from 1984-89 after heading the organizing committee of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which wound up with a $238 million surplus. Now 73, Ueberroth served as chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 2004-08, chairs the Contrarian Group investment company and is co-owner of the company that operates the Pebble Beach Golf Course in California.
The award, named after the former UCLA basketball coach, will be presented Monday at a dinner. The proceeds of the dinner fund fellowships.
