Feed Your Face For Healthier Skin

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Dermatologist Jessica Wu says what you eat can make a big difference in how your skin looks. Her new book, "Feed Your Face," is all about the dos and don'ts of skin care and food.

The book is a 28-day plan to kick-start your way to glowing skin, but for us she did a quick "feed your face" prescription to get us going.

She says to start your morning with protein. It will help keep you filled up through the day and add good nutrients to your diet.

Breakfast Ideas:

  • Eggs
  • Protein smoothie
  • Whole wheat bagel with peanut butter

For lunch she says to think lean meats and vegetables. Also get those tomatoes in your diet, they contain lycopene, an antioxidant that helps prevent wrinkles and damage from the sun.

Lunch Ideas:

  • Thin-crust pizza with extra sauce
  • Salad with tomatoes

For dinner she says that in moderation lean red meat and lamb are good sources of zinc, which is essential for healthy skin. Green and Yellow vegetables are also great for glowing skin and have actually been found to help with crow's feet around eyes.

Dr. Wu says to stay away from anything that makes your blood sugar rise quickly, especially products with high-fructose corn syrup.

But feel free to break into the chocolate, as long as it is in small portions and dark chocolate. Look for at least 70 percent cocoa. She says that dark chocolate contains flavinols, which have lots of health benefits.
