The attack occurred about 9:45 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Cazador Lane, Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Jonathan Aikin was booked on suspicion of sexual battery, being under the influence of a controlled substance, burglary and child endangering, Amormino said. His bail was set at $100,000.

Amormino said 18-year-old Aikin allegedly entered the woman's home -- where she was sleeping with her two young children -- and attempted to strangle her.

The woman screamed and her 5-year-old son jumped on the suspect's back, Amormino said. She tried to call 911 but the man pulled the phone from her, Amormino added.

Meanwhile, neighbors called 911 and a neighbor, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, "came to her rescue," Amormino said.

The Marine was struggling with the suspect when deputies arrived. They zapped the intruder with a Taser and took him into custody.

Amormino said the victim and her son were treated for cuts and bruises.
