Late-Season Cold Front Aims At Southern California

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Southern California is in for a blast of winter-like weather.

The National Weather Service says a strong, late-season cold front will sweep across the area overnight and through Tuesday, producing gusty winds across the mountains and in the high-desert Antelope Valley. Forecasters say peak sustained winds up to 30 mph are expected, with gusts to 50 mph.

Wind advisories are in effect for the counties of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles and most all of San Bernardino. Those advisories are set to expire at 9 p.m. Monday.

At elevations above 6,000 feet the winds may combine with snowfall, resulting in reduced visibility.

The new system comes on the heels of a weekend rainstorm accompanied by a blustery chill.

Downtown Los Angeles only reached a high of 63 on Monday, 11 degrees below normal for the date. Total rainfall has reached 19.8 inches, almost 5 inches more than normal.
