Give Me A PS3, Marijuana, & The Mexican Army: Best Library Standoff Ever?
WHITTIER (CBS) — A man accused of taking a woman hostage with a pair of scissors in a local library and making bizarre demands was charged on Thursday with seven felony counts, including kidnapping for ransom and false imprisonment of a hostage.
Whittier man Ignacio Gabriel Munoz, 30, is set to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Whittier Superior Court, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Munoz is accused of grabbing a woman at the at the Central Library in Whittier at 7344 S. Washington Ave. shortly after 12:30 p.m., authorities said.
The suspect allegedly demanded one pound of marijuana and a car that included a PlayStation3 to end the standoff, in addition to the Mexican Army to pick him up, according to the criminal complaint.
Munoz immediately released the woman after responding officers fired a bean bag round, according to police. He has remained jailed since then.
He is charged with one count each of kidnapping for ransom, false imprisonment of a hostage and second-degree commercial burglary and two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.
Prosecutors will ask that his bail be set at $1 million. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
