Woman, 30, Loses Leg After Being Struck By Freight Train

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 30-year-old woman's leg was severed Wednesday after she was struck by a Union Pacific freight train in South Los Angeles.

The incident occurred at 5:24 p.m. at Slauson and Holmes avenues, said Cecil Manresa of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The woman was taken to a trauma center in serious condition, Manresa said.

The incident occurred on the Union Pacific tracks under the tracks for the Metro Blue Line, which is elevated at the location. The Blue Line train was not affected but the freight train was stopped for the investigation.
