Multiple LAPD Divisions On Tactical Alert For Shotgun Suspect

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police officials were on tactical alert on Wednesday after a robbery suspect armed with a shotgun strikes three locations in one night.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports extra officers were on the street in Olympic, Southwest, and Wilshire divisions looking for a very dangerous and prolific armed robber.

The three robberies on Tuesday night brings the total number to as many as 10 in the last two weeks.

The suspect is described as African-American, 6 feet tall, 175 lbs, between the age of 25 to 35 and usually dresses in dark clothing.

Sgt. Ted Urena said the suspect usually carries a sawed off shotgun under his jacket or in a duffle bag and isn't afraid to use it.

"Last night, it was one business and two street robberies," Urena said.

Detectives are also enhancing surveillance camera footage in an effort to identify the suspect.

During the tactical alert no officers could end their shifts and only important calls for service or emergency were answered, Skaggs said.

The alert was modified about 2 a.m., allowing officers who stayed on duty to return home or go back to their standard patrol duties.
