Riverside Police Continue To Investigation Abduction Of Girl, 9

RIVERSIDE (CBS/AP) — A nine-year-old girl was being treated for her injuries Monday after police say she was abducted from her Riverside home over the weekend.

Officials say a man broke into her second floor apartment at Pike Street and Herman Drive through an unlocked window late Saturday night. They say he carried away the sleeping 9-year-old girl and later abandoned her in a residential neighborhood.

Police Lt. Ed Blevins said officers found the girl, who appeared disoriented, going door-to-door shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. She told police a man she didn't know had come into her home and carried her away as she slept. She said he later dumped her out of his car in another part of Riverside.

The girl was hospitalized in serious condition with injuries suffered during her abduction, Blevins said. He declined to describe the nature of the injuries or say how she was hurt. She was recovering at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Riverside police will hold a news conference Tuesday at 10 a.m. regarding the case.

Anyone with any information about the abduction was urged to contact the Riverside Police Department. Authorities have not released a sketch of the suspect.
