Police Arrest Woman With Blood-Alcohol Level Almost Four Times Legal Limit

SANTA ANA (CBS)  ̶  A 20-year-old woman was caught driving late Thursday with a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit.

KNX 1070’s Mike Landa Reports

Police were monitoring Cinco de Mayo cruising on Harbor Boulevard late Thursday when they saw Leann Renee Arriaga,20, drive through a red light at First Street.  When they pulled her over, found an open bottle of alcohol in her car, and performed what’s known as a “Preliminary Alcohol Screening” — a field sobriety test.

The 20-year-old registered a .30 blood-alcohol level.  The legal limit is .08, and that’s for someone who has already turned 21.  Arriaga turns 21 on Saturday.

“I’ve never seen anybody that drunk,” said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.  “I’m surprised she was still functioning.”

Facts on Tap, a national alcohol-education program says that someone with a blood-alcohol level of .30 is “in a stupor” and at risk of suddenly passing out.  It’s approaching the level of surgical anesthesia; concentrations just a few percentage points higher have actually killed people.

That kind of breath test is “extremely accurate,” Bertagna said, but it’s not official. Officers arrested the Placentia resident on suspicion of driving under the influence; she was booked into jail, where her blood was taken for an additional alcohol test. The results of that test were not back by Friday afternoon.

Court records show that a Leann Arriaga with her birth date has been ticketed six times in Orange County in the past five years for speeding and other traffic infractions, as well as littering.  Other officers have occasionally pulled people over with that level of alcohol in their blood, he said, but they’ve never seen anyone that drunk and still behind the wheel.

Santa Ana parents/elders at their best! You found a way to celebrate your own Holiday in a most respectful way ! We are watching, keep up the good work. So you celebrate your Lil Victory by letting those you love drive blasted?
    Especially those under 21?
    So, here is my question:
IF YOU DO TAKE OVER (IN YOUR OWN LITTLE MINDS), WILL ALL SAID AREAS REPRESENT SANTA ANA?
Any takeover should come with moving forward & improvement. Not creating a downward spiral for the area.
    F’ing Joke!

Why does this statement not make sense

About 35 years ago I was a .043%, crashed and ruptured my Spleen. Today I am five years under the care of a higher power

Gee a Latino surname, what a shock! Read the article folks, she has a history of being a low life- throw her skank butt in jail for life, worthless broad.

  13. jinger says:

spell check dude. cause seriously you cant spell, and so therefore maybe you need to go back to grade school to retry. and your sister may be a super model on the outside but apparently the inside of her mind and heart is something that is less than desired. now i am not judging because i was drinking when i was in high school. but i never drank and drove. drink and take the bus to school ok maybe. but never drank and drove. and now that i am over the legal age to drink, i actually only drink on occasion now. i dont need it to cope anymore.

and about the illegals not having drivers licenses, where the hell do you live that the illegals in california do not have a drivers license? cause that is where i need to do. seriously just about every illegal in this state has a drivers license and no one stops them. so get a grip and look around you. duh.

  14. Oops.... says:

Just because they drive doesn’t mean they have a license. That’s why they don’t stop after they kill someone with their car! It is really great that the law allows their cars (deadly weapons) to be impounded for 30 days when they get caught driving without a license. That’s 30 days that car won’t kill someone! But in my opinion, it would be even better if they had to forfeit the car if they get caught. That would save many lives.

You say .3 it doesn’t appear to be .3 maybe the media was fishing for something to publish. So that we all have something or someone to take a crack at! This young woman didnot appear almost in a coma state at all. And when she smiled at the camera she appeared shy and embarressed by being put in hand cuffs.the media suggested “she appeared amused” if she was that drunk how could she have found the camera?no she is innocent……… Till they try to prove her guilty.
