Century City Taco Restaurant Target Of Boycott For Pink Donkey Stunt

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A popular Century City taco restaurant is under fire for painting a donkey pink to promote Cinco de Mayo.

Animal control officials are investigating the incident for any hints of animal cruelty and to see if Pink Taco's donkey had adequate food and water.

"We all get it – Pink Taco, pink donkey," one customer told CBS 2/KCAL 9's Suraya Fadel. "But if they left it chained up in the sun, that's kind of lame. That's not very nice."

Animal advocates are calling on customers to boycott the restaurant. A Facebook fan page "Boycott Pink Taco Century City," has several angry comments, and the restaurant has deleted its Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The restaurant's owner, Harry Morton, released the following statement to PETA on Saturday, pledging to not use animals in future promotions:

"Pink Taco has agreed not to use animals at our events and promotions, and we are looking forward to… discussing how we can work together in the future."
