San Clemente Man, 20, Arrested For Fatal Crash That Killed 23-Year-Old Woman

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 20-year-old San Clemente man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly causing a crash that killed a 23-year-old woman in Lake Forest.

Jose Javier Fernandez Ramirez is charged with a felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. He also was cited for having no insurance.

Ramirez was driving east on Bake Parkway in a Toyota pickup truck about 11:10 a.m. on Jan. 14 when he ran a red light at North Pointe Drive. Authorities said he crashed into the passenger side of a Hyundai driven by 23-year-old Nicole Davenport.

Davenport was making a legal left turn at the time, Orange County prosecutors said.

Davenport was taken to Mission Hospital, where she died.

Ramirez, who is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, faces up to six years in prison if convicted.

  1. ILLEGALS says:

Faces only up to 6 years behind bars for killing someone? Especially that someone is only 23 years old? She never had a chance of living her life.

Up to 6 years in prison is nothing, he’ll get out in 2-3 years for good behavior. What a tragic loss of life.

Sorta like the Woman who killed an 18 year old student & she was only sentence to 6 years in prison.

So you can basically drive negligently & take someone Life away and only face a couple of years behind bars. WoW!!

  2. Ron says:

Unfortunately Lou, it would not have helped in this case. It was 11:10 am. And NO insurance, what a surprise !!! I bet they weren’t allowed to check if he was legal. Only 6 years, if convicted, what a travesty !!!

We are sorry for your loss, Davenport family.

  3. joke says:

    6 years????
A woman gets 20 years for ID theft, and this clown kills someone and gets 6. Where’s the justice?

  4. Just wondering says:

I am wondering why was he arrested now when the accident was back in January.

    1. ILLEGALS says:

Probably another hit-and-run case, and detectives were able to follow up some leads in the case and arrest the suspect. I dunno, just my common sense..

    2. Ron says:

Excellent question. Maybe he was hiding out in Mexico.

  5. tom says:

Lets see if i have this right: Guy from Santa Ana( 90 % illegals), no insurance and his name is Jose Javier Hernandez Ramirez. What are the chances that he is here illegaly???

ONLY IN AMERICA, he is CITED for not having insurance, this is included in the 6 years sentence. IF HE GET THE 6 YEAR SENTENCE. now looking at the hispanic name….he is probably out on the streets already.

    1. Ron says:

And a corrupt Hispanic DMV employee probably let him slide w/o insurance, like past DMV corruption cases. Eliminate the wasteful/inefficient DMV and let a private company like AAA takeover the duties. It will have faster, friendlier and cheaper service. No more union deadbeats.

  7. Hector says:

what is the point?, legal or illegal?, the law is the law, should the law be equal for all people or just for some?, legal?, or most legals, what is the point?

  8. FTB says:

Wow, six years for murder, albeit unintentional… many basically good people are jailed far longer for far, far less. What a joke our legal system is. America, land of god. Unbelievable!

  9. Tony says:

Whites commit these crimes all the time TOO.

  10. HooDatIS? says:
