Ethier's Bloop Single Extends Streak At 29
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers has extended his hitting streak to 29 games. Ethier lined a 1-2 pitch from Chicago Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster just beyond the leaping attempt of rookie second baseman Darwin Barney and into right field with one out in the fourth inning.
The hit was Ethier's eighth in 21 career-at-bats against Dempster to that point. His streak is the longest by a Dodgers player since Willie Davis' franchise-record 31-game stretch in 1969.
A hit by Ethier in his next game would make him the 44th major leaguer in the modern era (since 1900) with a streak of at least 30 games. The All-Star right fielder has gone hitless in only one of the team's first 31 games.
