Alleged Marijuana Grannies Grow Hundreds Of Plants In Their Home

SAN MATEO COUNTY(AP) – Prosecutors say "two marijuana grannies" are being held on allegations they were growing hundreds of marijuana plants in their home.

Authorities say the two San Bruno women 72-year-old Aleen Lam, and 65-year-old Virginia Chan Pon, were arrested Friday after police were called by neighbors about a home burglary.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe says when officers arrived they found the front door of the home had been kicked in. Through the broken door, officers saw marijuana plants growing inside.

After getting a warrant, police say they found 800 marijuana plants growing throughout the house.

Lam and Pon, who were not at home at the time of the burglary, were arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of marijuana and other charges.

Both have pleaded not guilty. They are both due to return to court May 13.
