Man Surrenders To SWAT Team After 5-Hour Standoff

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An armed parolee surrendered to a SWAT team after barricading himself in a house in East L.A. Sunday, authorities reported.

Two other men and three women were also arrested at the residence on various charges, and a four-month-old baby was found inside the home uninjured, Deputy Aura Sierra-Lidman said.

Deputies from the sheriff's Operations Safe Streets team, a gang task force, were trying to contact Francisco Sanchez at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

The man reportedly ran from them, armed with a gun, and into a home on the 4000 block of Hammel Street, Sierra-Lidman said.

A standoff lasted until just before 11 p.m., when a special weapons team made its way into home and took Sanchez into custody without incident, she said.

Sanchez's age and criminal record were not released.
