Schieffer Expected To Officially Start Thursday As Dodgers Monitor

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Tom Schieffer is expected to arrive at Dodger Stadium Thursday for his first official day as the team's monitor.

"I look forward to talking to Mr. McCourt and hopefully we can have a nice visit and see exactly what it is he's concerned about," Schieffer said in a press conference Wednesday.

Shieffer is a former U.S. Ambassador to Australia and Japan and was appointed last week by Major League Baseball Commission Bud Selig to run the financially struggling Dodgers.

The Dodgers are $400 million in debt and needed a $30 million loan to meet the first payroll of the baseball season.

Schieffer is hoping to meet with owner Frank McCourt who was in New York Wednesday to talk with Selig. McCourt called Selig's actions "un-American."
