Man Violated Probation, Gets Jail For Attacking Paris Hilton's Boyfriend

VAN NUYS (CBS) — A man pleaded no contest Thursday to attacking Paris Hilton's boyfriend outside the Van Nuys courthouse.

Hilton and boyfriend Cy Waits were walking toward the courthouse about 1 p.m. Wednesday when a man lunged at the couple and grabbed Waits by the neck. News crews shadowing Hilton captured the scene on video.

One of Hilton's bodyguards quickly tackled the man, later identified as 36-year-old James Rainford. Rainford was turned over to police and jailed on $20,000 bail.

Rainford, who was found to have violated his probation for an earlier run-in with bodyguard of Hilton's, was immediately sentenced to 227 days in jail and ordered to serve three years of probation, a Los Angeles City Attorney's spokesman said.

Hilton and Waits were on their way in to court to testify in the trial of Nathan Lee Parada of Redlands. Parada was arrested Aug. 24, after Hilton called police to report someone was outside her home.

The heiress wrote on her Twitter page that day that she "just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes (sic). Cops are here arresting him."

Parada is charged with a felony count of attempted residential burglary. Jurors are due back in court Friday for deliberations in his trial.
