Crystal Cathedral Musicians Walk Out Of Easter Service Over Paychecks
GARDEN GROVE (AP) — About one quarter of the orchestra hired to play at the Crystal Cathedral's Easter service walked out in a dispute over their paychecks.
The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that the musicians left an hour before the service after finding their paychecks were short, in some cases by as much as half.
The disclosure adds to a litany of financial woes that have befallen the Southern California megachurch, which filed for bankruptcy in October.
Financial documents related to the case have revealed generous pay and tax allowances for cathedral officials.
Crystal Cathedral spokesman John Charles says the services weren't affected by the eight people who walked out. Checks have been sent to those who performed.
He says the incorrect checks were due to an accounting error that resulted from miscommunication.
