KNX Wins 3 Edward R. Murrow Awards

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO has won three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in electronic journalism, it was announced today by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

KNX is the regional winner in the category for Overall Excellence. The award recognizes the entire news team's year-round reporting in 2010,including coverage of Southern California's major storms in February, the controversial immigration law in Arizona, a series on the forced closure ofmedical marijuana shops in Los Angeles, the three-month investigation and expose of LAX security and the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.

For the second consecutive year KNX won the award for Audio Breaking News Coverage, in recognition of its reporting on the heavy rains and flooding in early 2010. Bob Brill, Ed Mertz, Pete Demetriou, Jon Baird, Jason Nathanson and the KNX news team contributed to the coverage.

The third award is for Audio News Documentary in recognition of "Haiti, Hope in the Ruins," a half-hour documentary written by Andrew Mollenbeck upon his return from Haiti after seeing first-hand the devastation caused by the earthquake. The special was produced by director of news programming Andy Ludlum and Bill Nesbitt.

"These awards are a testament to the high standards that our producers, editors, writers, anchors and reporters set for themselves every day," said CBS RADIO Los Angeles Senior Vice President and Market Manager Steve Carver. "I am extremely proud of these achievements under the leadership of Andy Ludlum and our news director Julie Chin."

RTDNA is considered the world's largest professional organization devoted exclusively to electronic journalism. It has been recognizing outstanding achievements with the Murrow Awards since 1971.

KNX 1070's regional winners are now eligible for RTDNA's national awards competition later this year. KNX, owned and operated by CBS Radio, has now won five Murrow Awards in the past two years.
