Man Charged With Setting Fires At Homes, Synagogue

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 21-year-old man accused of setting a fire in a classroom at a Hollywood synagogue, as well as exclusive homes in Los Angeles, has been charged with 19 felony counts.

Dmitriy Sheyko was scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday on charges that include arson, use of a destructive device and burglary. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 21 years in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The D.A.'s office said Sheyko is accused of breaking into and setting fires at Temple Israel and at several homes on Beverly Ridge Terrace just south of Mulholland Drive. In some cases, he allegedly used Molotov cocktails, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The alleged crimes occurred on Thursday and Sunday. Sheyko was arrested Monday, according to the sheriff's Web site.
