Chino Boy, 6, Battles Stage 4 Brain Cancer

CHINO (CBS) — Daily chemotherapy and radiation treatments would hobble most people, but not 6-year-old Jose Verduzco of Chino.

Jose, who loves baseball, was first diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in February. When he was first diagnosed with the disease, doctors operated on Jose, removing the tumor, but it grew back to its original size within six days.

Jose has endured four major brain surgeries over the past few months, but at least he's been allowed to come home after a 2-month hospital stay. At home, he can hit a few balls and play Legos with his brothers, but doctors have ordered him to take it easy.

That doesn't keep Jose from sharing a few laughs with his family, whose finances have been hit hard by their oldest boys' health problems.

Members of the Chino community have decided to come together to help Jose and his parents with their mounting hospital bills.

A fundraiser held by Jose's school, E.J. Marshall Elementary, takes place Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Carl's Jr., 12005 Central Ave.

Checks can also be mailed to a fund established by his elementary school. Send those to:

E.J. Marshall Elementary
c/o Rosalba Ledesma
12045 Telephone Ave.
Chino, CA 91710

You can reach the school at (909) 627-9741.
