WESTWEGO, La. (AP) — Chris Paul says the postseason is when elite players shine and that he hopes to do just that when the Hornets take on the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

Paul has led the Hornets back to the postseason for a third time in four seasons, and says he’s been looking forward to a return to the playoffs for a long time.

The Hornets missed the playoffs last season, after which Paul said he would be open to a trade if the club didn’t demonstrate an immediate commitment to winning.

Paul isn’t talking about his future now, saying his focus is only on the Lakers.

His Hornets teammates and coaches say Paul’s effort in practice and during games gives them no reason to question his commitment.
