Former Substitute Teacher Gets Jail For Arranging Teen Fight Club

PASADENA (AP) — A former substitute teacher at a Los Angeles juvenile probation camp has been sentenced to six months in jail for staging fights between teenage boys.

Stephen Wesley also was sentenced Friday to three years of probation and anger management counseling in Pasadena Superior Court. He also will lose his teaching credential.

The 44-year-old was a math and science teacher for teenage boys at Camp Karl Holton in the San Fernando Valley. Prosecutors say he matched up six students from rival gangs to fight in August 2008 and the incident was captured on video.

Wesley pleaded no contest in January to six felony counts of child abuse.

Wesley was immediately removed from the classroom, then voluntarily resigned. The camp has since been shut down.
