STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Police say they’ve captured the murder suspect loose in Studio City after an extensive search.
Carpenter Community Charter School and nearby Bridges Academy were locked down while authorities searched for the suspect in the area near Laurel Canyon and Maxwellton. The Country School in Valley Village was also locked down.
Officer Bruce Borihanh says an officer on patrol spotted a man who was wanted in connection with a killing just before 11 a.m. Friday. The man fled and police began hunting for him.
The suspect, Luis Solano, a suspected gang member, was wanted for the November 2010 murder of Pedro Mendoza in North Hollywood. A second suspect in this homicide is in custody, along with the sawed-off shotgun believed to have been used in the crime.
Solano will be taken to the LAPD’s North Hollywood station to be questioned, an LAPD lieutenant told KCAL 9′s Randy Paige.
Laurel Canyon Boulevard, which was shut down north of Ventura Boulevard as part of the search, has been reopened.
The FBI assisted the Los Angeles police in the search.
