Murder Suspect Captured In Studio City

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Police say they’ve captured the murder suspect loose in Studio City after an extensive search.

Carpenter Community Charter School and nearby Bridges Academy were locked down while authorities searched for the suspect in the area near Laurel Canyon and Maxwellton. The Country School in Valley Village was also locked down.

Officer Bruce Borihanh says an officer on patrol spotted a man who was wanted in connection with a killing just before 11 a.m. Friday. The man fled and police began hunting for him.

The suspect, Luis Solano, a suspected gang member, was wanted for the November 2010 murder of Pedro Mendoza in North Hollywood. A second suspect in this homicide is in custody, along with the sawed-off shotgun believed to have been used in the crime.

Solano will be taken to the LAPD’s North Hollywood station to be questioned, an LAPD lieutenant told KCAL 9’s Randy Paige.

Laurel Canyon Boulevard, which was shut down north of Ventura Boulevard as part of the search, has been reopened.

The FBI assisted the Los Angeles police in the search.

KNX 1070’s Claudia Peschiutta reports.

We’re told the kids are all safe inside. The correct name of the school is Carpenter Community Charter

  • So should I leave the house??

CBS is so vague. Is there at least a DESCRIPTION of the suspect? ANYTHING?? I live in the area and if I leave the house how do I know if he/she’s not standing next to me somewhere?? And whom did the suspect allegedly murder? This is vague, and being vague can incite more panic.

    • Really

      Male suspect…Luis Solano.

      • So should I leave the house??

Thanks — when I first made the post, there was no info at all, other than the school was locked down.

  • Rhonda

This is a a cluster %**%#. All cars have been pushed onto neighborhood streets with no exit. LAPD at it’s best.

    • ragan

doing the best they can…come on….

    • Really

Why don’t you be happy they took an alleged murderer off of the streets? Always about you, you, you…

    • B

If it was your relative who was murdered by the suspect LAPD was looking for; would you care about traffic being messed up ? No I didn’t think so. Get a life.

  • Frank

Great coverage particularly Mike Case’s insights on the situation. However you tell parents to not go to the area & then you put them on TV…contradictory isn’t it?

  • vons

Here at work. Support your local vons!

    • Ralph

Vons suck. You guys sell expired stuff and you recycle meat products…GROSS!

  • Anonymous

Bridges Academy across the street is also safely locked down. All is well

  • assdan

    KCAL sucks

  • Rachel

There is a photo and more information on KTLA’s website.

  • Judy

Guys the area they were searching just now is the post office. Not the apartments next door.

  • J

I’m in the Apartment complex! Police and dogs are searching. Residents remain inside. Doors locked. (how do I upload)

  • Really

    Luis Solano is the suspect.

  • Mumbly Dave

news: a report of a recent event; intelligence; information

KCAL: pictures of pigs standing around, a dog drinking water, a nice aerial view of some buildings, and speculation.

    Polar opposites.

  • anonymous

i know this guy i went to school with him

    • Really

Another violent criminal off of the streets! Great job!

  • natasha

better check home boys immigration status

    • TT

hope they do – b4 we hafta pay the bill. Better yet – if someone comes here n breaks the law – let the country they came from “foot the bill ” not our tax dollars.

      • altruismo

Whoa Capt. Speculation! All you know is the guy is latino. Too much jon and ken is bad for the soul.

    • Really

They will…once a crime has been committed. The problem is not knowing who is here before had; however, I will be willing to bet this guy was born and raised right here in L.A.

      • TT

You know im the first one to support families n people just trying to live, have a life and get along – its hard enough these days, for the people that play by the rules so to speak … but to have to deal with a criminal element in our country where certain individuals are “guests” invited or uninvited,,, its just not fair that the people that actually live here have to tolerate it and pay for it (taxes, the economy etc) when they dont abide by the same laws we have to.

  • drozone69

I thought only a prison is capable of bieng locked down.Just goes to show that the inmates attend school, regardless if public or private.when the warden feels it necessary he will lift the lockdown.Until then shut-up and wait far away in line you ignorant parents. We know what is best for our child, not you.

    • Carri

???? Really? You are going to turn a school lock down into political commentary? Schools lock down at the order of the police and entirely for the safety of the students. They lift the lock down when the police tell them. Prison? Warden? Ignorant parents? Maybe a safety measure. Do you have any knowledge of school lock downs, any personal experience? They are held in an organized fashion with well trained personell. They ask parents not to come, or “wait in line” so situations don’t become emotional and chaotic. Did you not read the part about the guy being a murderer?

      • rick

carri i have had personal exp with a school lock down and your so far from accuate they are NEVER well organized and as for well trained personel? get real when was a school teacher or admin ever trained in security measures like that CALL THE PARENTS AND GET THE KIDS OUT OF THERE locking them down mearly makes a captive audiance where if the bad guy storms the school he/she would have a crud load of hostages at the very least get the kids on school bus’s and out of the area THAT IS HOW YOU KEEP THEM SAFE

Homeboy will get Food/Housing/Healthcare & eventually Welfare & Medi-Cal once out of prison.

    • Really

What are you talking about? The problem is not going to be when he gets out of prison. If he’s found guilty, he’s probably going to do life if premeditated. We’ll be still be paying for his living so to speak. You’re close, but no cigar.

  • Jinx

dude looks like a murdered…good job LAPD for getting him off the streets….

  • Jinx

    I meant murderer*

    • Really

I hear you. Dude eyes look souless.

      • of course

He is probably an anchor baby. I have been doing studies on these ‘fine citizens’ and their lack of self esteem. I am not saying this to be racist, but look at WHY they were born. Just so their parents can sponge off of American citizens? It kills self esteem, and leeds them to this kind of life. Honestly, they anchor baby thing has to stop. I have had deep discussions both with the parents of anchor babies, and the anchor babies (adults) themselves and it is very traumatic for them. Many are not raised being taught right from wrong. They are only a meal ticket and resort to crime because they dont know any better.

      • altruismo

again with the unwarranted assumptions! “probably an anchor baby?” “WHY were they born?” what does that even mean? ps – anytime someone says “im not saying this to be racist…” you can guarantee they are about to say something ignorant. I would love to read your “studies” too, where are they published?

  • Woof Woof

Police said K-9 was able to sniff out the suspect. They said dogs have an acute sense to sniff out people in fear.

Dude should’ve thought about Poosey or strip clubs while he was running & hiding.

Studio City, dogs either sniffed out he fear or the beans in him..

  • Todd

Latin gang member wanted for murder? No way! Isn’t he supposed to be one of those hard- working people who just came here for a better life? I am SO TIRED of these low-life roaches.

  • Bill

Another Low Life Mexican! Theae azteca savages continue to make names for themselves in our Southland! They also probably could have located him in the Left field Pavillion at Dodger Stadium.
