2 Arrested After Police Shooting, Hour-Long Pursuit

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man suspected of stealing a white GMC Yukon led the California Highway Patrol on an hour-long pursuit from East Los Angeles to Mission Viejo Thursday morning.

The suspect was shot in the hand at 1:30 a.m. during the chase at Washington Boulevard and Dennis Avenue in Commerce, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The man reportedly stopped at that location, but attempted to run the vehicle into officers when they approached him, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting, the CHP reported. No officers were hurt.

The wounded motorist kept driving until he came near the Oso Parkway exit of Interstate 5 in Mission Viejo, Kimball said.

The CHP spiked his tires, disabling the vehicle. The suspect then surrendered and was arrested.

He was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. A female passenger was also arrested, but did not suffer any injuries.
