Singer Prince To Begin 21-Night Residency In LA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Singer Prince is set to begin his 21-night residency in Los Angeles, with his first appearance scheduled for Thursday at the Los Angeles Forum.

“You know he’s not gonna give you that many opportunities to go see him in this huge, mainstream setting,” Los Angeles Times music writer Gerrick Kennedy said.

Kennedy told KNX 1070 Newsradio that roughly 85 percent of tickets are $25.

“If you want to be up close and personal, obviously there are platinum packages which are running 5/6/700 dollars. And then there are of course, the lower lodge seats, which are $179. So a pretty penny, but I mean he did make 85 percent of his tickets 25 bucks,” Kennedy added.

Prince has previously done residency-style concerts in New York, the Carolinas, as well as in Oakland, Calif. He has yet to announce who’s appearing with him in LA.

I saw Prince at the Oakland Arena in Feb 2011. I paid for the VIP America Tickets at $500.00 a ticket. The stage was set at 7 feet high and the seats I purchased were on the floor so it was difficult to see the stage area. The floor concessions were comprised of 1 hotdog/fries/pretzel stand, and 1 bar that had no draft beer because they weren’t given enough time to prepare for Prince’s fans. There was no lounge for seating and relaxing, and 1 bathroom on each end of the floor. But the Club level tickets had a nice lounge and the tickets were less expensive. Prince was shrowded in MACHINE GENERATED FOG the ENTIRE NIGHT. He ran through more of a ballad style arrangement to cover as many of his songs as possible. These floor seats are definitely NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Buy the less expensive seats. I will say this. He pocketed my money, not the parasite scalpers and he will slowly announce at least 3 concerts within a 2 week period to be sure the market is saturated and prices come down. I bought these tickets for my girlfriend. She’s the Prince fan. He’s very talented.Wish I could’ve seen him on stage consistently throughout the concert. The stage height prevented what could’ve been a great visual experience.
